Small Beginnings

First our 'dream home' was a boat. Then it was a yurt. Now, a couple of years later, we've landed on 'tiny-house.' We've been interested in living smaller, reducing our impact, and keeping our finances flexible for a while now, but we finally made the decision to build a micro-home in the summer of 2012. We were heading into a huge, 9 month trip around the world and we knew it wouldn't happen until we returned, but we got started nonetheless. We began researching, planning and designing. We read everything we could get our hands on about micro-homes and sustainable housing (and let me tell you, there's a lot out there).

As soon as we returned to the States, we were ready to get started. The past 9 months hadn't just been about travel for us, they also involved a great deal of work to get all the "house stuff" lined up for when we got home.

Why the rush? Both of us being teachers meant we had just slightly over 2 months from the time we returned to the time school started in August. This translated to around 9 weeks to complete the house, start-to-finish
